Ok. That was a horrible pun but now that I have a twitter account I'm finding a like Twittering better than Blogging. No it doesn't mean I'm going to drop this blog completely. I'll still post items that require lengthier explanations. It's just been tough to think of things to write about since I've probably said most of what I'm going to say in my YouTube videos. Blogging often feels like writing a report and takes me quite a bit of time to get my thoughts together and lay them out in a coherent fashion. Twitter feels more like having quick little conversations; it's just easier for me to get things out on the table that way. So now I've included a widget on the sidebar that will display my twitter posts.

Work, Work, Work...
...is cutting into my hobby and family time. I work in the IT industry and things have been really, really, really busy. I suppose it's a good problem to have but that means I won't be putting out as many Youtube videos as I have in the past. Hopefully things will settle down in a couple of months.

What a Shocker....
...I have over 3,000 images on my website! I've never really kept track of how many images I've uploaded over the past 5 years or so. I scanned all my image folders and came up with 3,018 pictures. I hope I never have to re-build my website. It would be a nightmare.

News and Such
Yeah I've been kinda quiet lately. But I do have some odds and ends.
First of all I'm on Twitter now. Here is my page: http://twitter.com/thebige61. In some ways it's easier for me to send out little messages than it is writing a full blog post. This is almost like writing a book report for me. I'm not planning on dropping the blog. It's just that blogging is more time intensive that sending out a few "tweets" a day.
Second, I'm thinking of doing a series on maintaining rolling stock. The last time I ran some trains I found my rolling stock was in lame shape. It's not a chore that's high on my list do do but I need to get it done.
Third, I'm having a horrible time getting a hold of parts to make my won static grass applicator. Noch makes one but they are very pricey ($150.00). The main source of negative ION generators here in the states no longer carries the part. There's someone EBay over in England that makes the applicators and it's looking like I may have to go that route.
Fourth, Check out these sites:
http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com
http://model-trains-video.com
Both sites are the brain child of Joe Fugate whose layout, the Siskiyou Line, was featured in Model Railroader a few years back. The sites are a great source of Model Railroading tips and expertise and any time you spend there will be worth it.
That's all I can think of for now.

Live Show Feedback
Oh...I guess I never told you I'm doing a "live" show now on Ustream.tv. Here is the link to my "station".
TheBigE's Model Railroad Show
It's pretty cool service that will let anybody with a webcam do a live show. I recently did a short live show and posted some excerpts to my YouTube channel. The full version of the "show" is available on my ustream channel.
Hmmm...Lets just say I got some feedback pretty quickly.
The cool thing about the internet is that the response to something new and different can be pretty close to instantaneous. Here are excerpts of some feedback I got regarding the "live" show. I've also included my responses.
"I watched your new live feed and the first thing that scared me was that you are not going to be putting anything else on Youtube."
No. The live feed was never meant to be a replacement for what I'm doing now. I'm currently uploading a "regular" video right now . I was recording it as I was doing the live feed.
"Please don't take any of this the wrong way. It's just that I have learned so much from you that I don't want it to quit. I even enjoy the banter between yourself on whether you should do it or not. No I don't think you talk to much. By you talking as you do I know exactly what you are thinking about and why you decided to do something or even change it."
Thanks for your perspective and encouragement. I've been blessed with a very kind audience. Whenever I have gotten any negative feedback (which hasn't been often) it's centered on the length of my videos, how much talking and over-explaining I do. Whenever someone has told me that they like my banter they've never provided a clear explanation why they like it...up until now Your explanation makes a lot of sense. Lately I've been trying to strike more of a balance between talking about what's going on and speeding through (via time lapse video) some of the more boiler plate work I'm doing. I'm thinking it's a generational thing: The young folks like things in quick bite sized chunks while the older generation likes a more slow, thorough, and methodical approach.
Now as for this "live" thing I pretty jumped into it on the spur of the moment. There's still a lot I need to think through on the show like how I'm going to do a live session and still produce decent higher quality videos for YouTube at the same time. The latest video I'm currently uploading, Putting scenery on the Interchange: Part 45, was filmed during the live session. Like each of my videos it has it's "issues" (you may not think so but I'm my own worst critic).
I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to keep on doing live sessions. I still want to keep on doing high quality videos for YouTube and my not be able to juggle both at the same time. We'll see. I guess I'm just testing the waters right now.
Feel free to forward this response to anybody else you may know who is having concerns.
Thanks for your support.

Yeah...Sure...Why Not!
I just got done making the forms for my road this weekend.
Model Railroad VLog:
Putting Scenery on the Interchange: Part 43
My next step will be to mix up a batch water putty and pave it. Since the video will be done in time lapse format I'm going to need to write and record some music for it. I've been thinking that there may be a few of you who are morbidly curious about how I write and record music for my videos so I'm going to do a short (I think) series on that subject. It's not directly related to Model Railroading but I figure it will provide a (hopefully) nice diversion.
